New signing Martin Turner made an immediate impact when firing Brampton to a first win of the Kershaw Premier Division season on Tuesday night.

Turner made a grand entrance with a debut hat-trick as Wayne Ambler’s side thumped Gamlingay 4-0 at the Memorial Field.

Nick Garner was the other player to find the net as they opened their points account after starting the Cambs League top-flight campaign with back-to-back defeats.

Another prolific striker to open his account for a new club on Tuesday was Lee Bassett.

The new Eaton Socon capture bagged both goals as they edged out Hemingfords United 2-1 in a derby clash at the Mick George Stadium.

Bassett opened the scoring early on, but that strike was cancelled out by the visitors on the half-hour as Adam King levelled.

But parity proved to be short-lived as Bassett struck again with a long-range blast to earn victory moments later.

Eaton Socon then missed a number of gilt-edged chances to extend their lead before being reliant on three fine stops from goalkeeper Andrew Wale to keep them ahead as they claimed a second successive victory this term.

Great Paxton were reduced to nine men as they made a losing start to the Kershaw Senior A Division season last night.

Richard Conby and Barney Niccolls both saw red in a 2-1 reverse at Ely City Reserves. Stephen Harper hit the Paxton goal.

The Kershaw Senior B Division also kicked off last night, but only one of the three local teams in action could claim victory.

That was Needingworth United, who beat Witchford 96 courtesy of a solitary goal from Dan Sherlock with a quarter-of-an-hour to go.

Sawtry claimed a sweet slice of Peterborough & District League Premier Division revenge on Tuesday night.

Player-boss Michael Simpson headed a late winner to earn a 4-3 triumph against Stilton in the second A1 derby clash of the season between the two sides.

Stilton won 2-0 at Sawtry on the opening day of the season at the end of last month.
