Goalkeeper Steve Large was the hero as Needingworth caused a major Hunts Intermediate Cup shock.
The Kershaw Senior B Division side prevailed from the penalty spot last Saturday to dump out Premier Division opponents Hemingfords United who play two steps higher up the Cambs League ladder.
Large pulled off three shoot-out saves before Jack Baker completed a 3-0 second-round triumph from 12 yards following a 1-1 deadlock.
Needingworth had earlier hit the front through a Michael Thompson strike in the second minute, but they had Steve Beeson dismissed on the hour and conceded a last-minute leveller from Andy Ging.
Needingworth’s reward is a date against another top-flight side, Brampton, in the quarter-finals.
Wayne Ambler’s men, beaten finalists last term, eased past Peterborough opponents ICA Sports 4-1 in the second round. Gareth Owens hit a hat-trick, which included a free-kick and a penalty, with George Cresswell grabbing the other goal.
Somersham also passed a Peterborough test when winning 4-2 at Riverside Rovers with Ben Green striking twice. They’ll now face an Eynesbury Under 21 side, who bashed Yaxley Under 21s 10-0.
A brace of John Flack goals helped Bluntisham Rangers triumph 3-2 at Stilton. Warboys, who received a walkover, are their next opponents while Sawtry will go to either Huntingdon Town Reserves or Eaton Socon in the other quarter-final tie.
Ross Morgan hit a hat-trick to lead Paxton United Reserves to their first Cambs League win of the season last Saturday. Gary Culver, Danny Love-Fulton and Jack Smith-Howell also struck in a 6-0 romp at Gamlingay Reserves in Division 2B.
Bluntisham Rangers were smashed 9-1 by Little Downham Swifts at the same level although it wasn’t the heaviest defeat suffered by a local side. That dubious honour went to Eaton Socon A who were bashed 11-1 at Clare Town in Division 3A.
Offord extended their unbeaten record in that division without kicking a ball as opponents Foxton Reserves failed to raise a side. The same problem applied for Huntingdon United who could not fulfil their Division 1B date against Wisbech St Mary Reserves.
There were big wins for two unbeaten sides. Matthew Claxton hit a hat-trick as Alconbury thumped St Ives Rangers 7-2 in Division 1B while Salv Merola struck a treble as Fenstanton pulverised Mildenhall United 8-0 in Division 2B.
