Huntingdon United boss Lee Milton refuses to believe that the Cambs League Division 1B title is in the bag – despite a top-of-the-table triumph last Saturday carrying his unbeaten side 10 points clear at the summit.

United turned an interval deficit into a 3-1 success at a Fordham side, who kicked-off in second spot, thanks to goals from Carl Foreman, Aaron Petty and Dom Everett.

But Milton reckons his men still need to win at least half of their remaining eight games to clinch the championship crown.

Milton said; “The boys showed terrific character to recover from being behind at the break.

“They have been fantastic all season and pulled out a big 45 minutes when we really needed it in a big game.

“The win leaves us in a strong position, but we still have plenty of work to do. I believe we will need to win four more games to be sure of the title, and that’s now the target.”

United look to have good opportunities to collect two of those required successes when going to Swavesey Institute this Saturday, and St Ives Rangers on February 25. A clash with new second-placed side, March Town Reserves, follows in early March.

Huntingdon United could be celebrating a title double at the end of the season.

Their new reserve side climbed to the top of Division 5B following a 4-0 success against Marchester United last Saturday.

Dennis Squires hit a farewell brace following a prolific spell with the side during a break in the UK from his job as a football coach in America.

Josh Dawson and Jake Watling also found the net for Danny Smith’s side.
