UCL Premier Division Long Buckby 1 St Ives Town 2 A MAGNIFICENT save from Rob Mackney and a rare goal for Jason King were the highlights of an important win as St Ives completed a double over Long Buckby. The home side went ahead through Jon Crockett on 13 minutes when St Ives failed to deal with a long throw and Mackney was left stranded. However, the visitors hit back five minutes later when Fielding volleyed in a free kick from Craig Smith. Mackney distinguished himself in the second half with a save from a downward header joint-manager Jez Hall described as 'reminiscent of Gordon Banks from Pele'. Saints allowed the home side few chances in a tight half and snatched victory with a fine run and finish from right-back King. Hall said: "Kingy doesn't get many so to see him pop up with the winner was fantastic and it was an important win for us against a very good side. Long Buckby have only lost three league games all season and two of those are against us, so they must be sick of the sight of us." n St Ives hosted Huntingdon in the League Cup last night and welcome high-fliers Deeping Rangers on Saturday.
