FA Vase Second Qualifying Round Eynesbury Rovers 1 Whitton United 4 TEN-MAN Rovers' poor record in the FA Vase continued as they slumped to defeat against Ridgeons League outfit Whitton. The visitors could even afford the luxury of missing a second-half penalty as they cruised to a three-goal lead at the interval. Whitton got their noses in front early on when Adam Atey broke down the right to cross for the lively Sam Banya to score past Danny Workman. Ten minutes later, it was Banya again on the scoresheet with a far-post header before Gavin Crane made it three in the 21st minute with a 15-yard drive. Eynesbury soon pushed forward but Ian Dawkes fired over after good work from Peter Collins before driving a Neil Morris free-kick into the side netting. After the interval Whitton continued to press and Eynesbury were grateful to Kirk Kidd for clearing an effort off his own line. The visitors were awarded a penalty midway through the second half as Workman was adjudged to have fouled Banya, but the stopper turned away Kevin Inglis' spot-kick. The home side won a penalty of their own in the 75th minute which Collins made no mistake with to reach a half-century of goals for the first team. Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly quashed when Whitton restored their three-goal advantage through Darren Mills on 84 minutes. Eynesbury's misery was completed shortly before full-time when Kidd was given his marching orders for the second consecutive game after picking up two bookings. * Rovers travel to Whitworths on Saturday for a league fixture.
