Godmanchester Rovers 3-1 Stowmarket Town
PAUL Bass scored all three goals in Godmanchester Rovers’ 3-1 win over Stowmarket Town on Saturday - before he was forced to quit the game midway through the second half with a niggling leg injury.
The striker’s first came on the half-hour mark when he followed up his own saved shot to force the ball home and his second came just eight minutes later, a solo effort to beat the goalkeeper this time.
Bass completed his hat trick on 55 minutes when he headed home a Jason King cross.
It wasn’t a one-man show though; both Mike and Chris Hyem were excellent in midfield and John Turner and King both had chances to increase Goddy’s lead.
Stowmarket’s consolation goal came deep in injury time after the management duo of David Hurst and Neville Nania had made several changes and the home side had begun to look a little ragged.
The Godmanchester manager said: “Although we are only four games into the season it was our 12th match so far including pre-season friendlies and we have only lost two games.
“With only 30 games in the league this season it is vital that we had a settled and match-fit side from the off as we chase promotion.
“It’s coming together quite nicely.”
Of course, all eyes will be on the FA Cup this Saturday and the club has organised a coach for supporters who wish to travel to Loughborough University for the all-important preliminary round game.
It will be leaving at Bearscroft Lane at 11.45am and anyone wishing to be aboard should contact Karly Hurst on 07785 983204.
