Huntingdon Town Ladies suffered Cambs Women’s Junior Invitation Cup disappointment – on a day when they could only field eight players.

The local side delivered a battling display as they were only pipped 2-1 at Isleham despite their depleted line-up. They received a further blow in the opening half when forced into a change of goalkeeper.

Forward Sian Gamble had to don the gloves after picking up an injury - a move which meant regular shot-stopper Karen Williams stepped into a forward role.

Huntingdon were behind by then as the hosts hit the front in fortuitous fashion, but they defied their numerical disadvantage to level when Laura Melling released Kelly Daniels to finish coolly.

Their hopes of an incredible victory were dashed when Isleham struck again following an initial Gamble save during the second half. Daniels did have a late chance to equalise a second time, but saw her shot parried away.

Captain Emma Clark said: "It was a great team performance. I would award everyone the player-of-the-match award if I could."

But playing with only eight players isn't ideal and Huntingdon are desperate to bolster their ranks.
