Godmanchester Rovers manager Matt Clements is putting his faith in youth as the holders bid to reach the Hunts Senior Cup final tonight.
Clements will hand seven teenagers places in his 16-man squad for a Hunts Senior Cup semi-final tie against Eynesbury Rovers at the David Wilson Homes Ground, 7.45pm.
Evan Jeckells, Ryan Wood, Chris Hartley, Luke Brown, Jake Bennett, Pete Southee and Jamie Osborne are all set to feature and Clements is backing his young talents to shine in a high-pressure match as they bid to claim a final berth against St Ives Town.
Clements said: “We have a crop of very promising young players at the club and some of those will feature in the squad tonight.
“I’m a believer in giving youngsters the chance to progress. They’ve been involved in the first team a few times already and have done very well.
“There is no disrespect towards Eynesbury or the competition, but we are in a position where we have one player away and several others carrying knocks.
“If we were playing a league game tonight, I would still be shuffling the pack. This is not an experiment or an attempt to be clever.
“I back the team I will select to win the game as we want to reach the final as the holders.”
Midfield maestro Micky Hyem is the Rovers player away while several others are carrying minor injuries.
It promises to be a fascinating clash of two form teams with Rovers having reeled off seven successive victories in all competitions and Eynesbury having lost only one of their last 14 matches in the United Counties League Premier Division.
