ST IVES Town confirmed that they were back to winning ways when they dismissed Holbeach United at Westwood Road on Saturday. The hosts almost took the lead in the opening minute when Ozie Foster ran past the Holbeach defence and passed to Liam Kennett, whose shot was cleared off the line. After seven minutes Kennett crossed in from the right and Dean Elston scored an own goal to give Ives the lead. Moments after the restart Robin Mackney had to make a good save from player-manager Shaun Keeble as the visitors threatened to respond. After 21 minutes Junior McDougald was released to fire into the bottom left corner as the hosts went further ahead. Visiting goalkeeper James Douguty had to save a McDougald free kick from 20 yards and tip over Will Fordham's header from the corner as they struggled to contain St Ives. Holbeach started off the better side after the break as Keeble and Liam Nimmo both missed good chances. After 68 minutes Lloyd Howard cleared a Danny Hussey header from the post and MacKney made a point-blank save from Stacy Cartwright. Substitute Leon Schweir almost had an immediate impact as he laid off a pass for McDougald who was stopped by the defence as the hosts held on for the points. St Ives Town co-manager Jez Hall said: "We played very well today and we played some nice football, especially in the first half which is where we won it. Our target is to get 20 points from 10 league games so we'll just have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks." St Ives next travel to Daventry Town tomorrow (Tuesday) before they face Cogenhoe United away on Saturday in the first of their four away games, before they finish the season with five fixtures at Westwood Road.
