Jordan Nicholson, from Godmanchester, received the perfect early Christmas present when being snapped up by Peterborough United. The 21 year-old signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the League One club on Christmas Eve after impressing while on trial earlier last week. It continues an incredible journey for a high-scoring attacking ace who was playing for Sawston in the Kershaw Premier Division only 18 months ago at Step 7 level. Nicholson said: Things happened really quickly last week and Ive spent a lot of time pinching myself. To be in the same dressing room as players Ive considered as idols is incredible. Peterborough have great history of bringing players through from non-league and Im delighted to get the chance myself. It is going to be a big change for me as Ive been working full-time as a care co-ordinator, looking after the elderly in their own homes. But I couldnt turn down the opportunity Ive been given in football. Nicholsons exploits at grassroots level for Sawston earned a move into the semi-pro ranks at Eynesbury. He took a two-level leap in his stride to slam in 26 goals for Rovers in the United Counties League last season. Nicholson then climbed another two levels up the non-league ladder when clinching a summer move to Histon. And it is his form for the Southern Premier Division side which gave him the chance to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional footballer. Nicholson added: Ive made a lot of big steps in a short space of time. I had a good season at Sawston and then managed to score a lot of goals at Eynesbury as well before getting a move to Histon in the summer. It has gone well for me there too and it is brilliant to have got a deal at Posh. You have to keep working hard as a young player and not let the dream of becoming a professional footballer die. Nicholson went straight into the Posh squad when being an unused substitute for both of their festive fixures. He was initially recommended to them by analyst Daniel Mott, who now works at Posh after previously being with Histon.
