The 26-goal hitman clinched a richly-deserved transfer to League Two club Newport County yesterday for an undisclosed fee. Goalkeeper Andy Wilton made a rather less high-profile exit from the Premier Plus Stadium on the same day when he was released by Saints by mutual consent. Central defender Ryan Frater has also left this week to join lower-level Royston Town while Mat Mitchel-King moved to Hemel Hempstead last week. Interim boss Andy Davies is closing in on new recruits with Cambridge United youngsters Jordan Brown (a striker) and Frankie Jones (a defender) expected to arrive on work experience loans early next week. He also has a new goalkeeper in mind. Davies said: There four or five clubs keen on Tom in the end and he has made the choice to go to Newport. It is a very understandable decision given County have a great track record for developing and pushing forward players from non-league. Hopefully that will happen with Tom as well and everyone at St Neots certainly wishes him well. We have had a couple of other players move on in the last few days as well. I had a conversation with Ryan earlier in the week and told him I could not guarantee him playing time. I made him aware of the approach from Royston and he has chosen to take that up. It was a similar story with Mat. He is a fantastic player, but I couldnt offer him lots of minutes due to the transition in the way we are playing. Andy and ourselves agreed to part company by mutual consent. He is based in Norwich and has found the large amount of travelling a financial burden. Weve still got Ben Jackson with us from Stevenage and hell play tomorrow, but we have approached another goalkeeper who will hopefully come in early next week. Weve also got the two lads from Cambridge United coming on board and it is great to have a good working relationship with a Football League club like that. New recruit Charlie Coulson made his Saints debut when they were pipped 2-1 by promotion hopefuls Hitchin on Tuesday night. The former Peterborough United man arrived from Ilkeston on the day of the game. St Neots face another high-flying team when hosting third-placed Redditch tomorrow, 3pm.
