UCL Division One --- Peterborough Northern Star 1-0 Eynesbury Rovers --- EYNESBURY Rovers lost by the narrowest of margins away to league leaders Peterborough Northern Star in one of the few games to beat the frosty condition at the weekend. It was the first league match in which Matt Plumb's Eynesbury side has failed to score this season but it wasn't for the lack of effort the team put into the match. Plumb felt his side deserved at least a point from the outcome after pressing PNS from start to finish. He said: "We were never second best in the match and should have taken a point, but that's football. "At least we have the chance to redress the balance on Saturday when they come to us, and I'm sure fans will get a real good match to watch once again." Chris Garwell smashed in the decider in the 41st minute to separate two evenly-matched sides with a goal in keeping with the high quality of the match. Karl Gibbs headed wide for the hosts before Adam Boothby went close to giving Rovers the lead. Boothby's strike from the edge of the area forced Richard Roberts to push the goal-bound effort away for a corner kick. Boothby and Joe Jordan were both off target again later in the half, and Northern Star also missed three good chances before Garwell struck from 25 yards in what turned out to be the match winner. There was still time for Boothby to fire over when well-placed just before the break. There were fewer chances after the break, with Ryan Francis missing Star's only real chance early on, but Rovers still generated enough opportunities to get a point. Chris Smith, Boothby and Darren Woodend all came close to earning Rovers a deserved point. The win strengthened Star's hold on a promotion position, giving them a 10-point lead over Rovers, who have two matches in hand. Plumb said his squad would be at full strength for Saturday's game at Hall Road following the return of Craig Lanham and Adam Podorgski available. Rovers entertain Peterborough Northern Star at Hall Road at 3pm on Saturday.
