St Neots Town’s first defeat of the Southern League Premier Division season came complete with a dreadful injury setback yesterday.
Summer signing Remy Gordon suffered a broken right leg in the closing stages of a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Poole Town at the Premier Plus Arena.
Gordon had levelled for Saints with their first goal earlier in the second half. But two further Poole goals put the visitors in command before Connor Hall halved St Neots’ arrears late on.
Jack Higgs fired them ahead in first-half stoppage time before defender Charlie De’Ath marked his first appearance of the season following suspension with a clincher with 12 minutes to go.
There was a mixed bag of results for the three local teams involved in FA Cup action yesterday.
One side (Godmanchester Rovers) breezed through the extra preliminary round, another (Huntingdon Town) will have another chance to join them after earning a reply, while Eynesbury Rovers bowed out.
Goddy powered to a 3-0 success at fellow Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Walsham-le-Willows.
Jonny Hall headed them into a 20th minute lead before new striking signing Andy Ofosu marked his debut by doubling the lead three minutes into the second half. James Hall struck for a fourth time in two games to clinch their passage with a free-kick on the hour.
Huntingdon picked up their first positive result of the season when involved in a goalless draw at Fakenham. The two teams will now do battle again at Jubilee Park on Wednesday night.
Eynesbury bowed out after being beaten 1-0 by lower-level Peterborough Sports at Hall Road. A solitary strike from former St Ives Town frontman Avelino Vieira after a quarter-of-an-hour settled the issue.
