Huntingdon talent Kasey Douglas has spoken of the ‘great moment’ of making his senior debut for League One club Peterborough United – at the age of just 16.

Douglas became the fifth youngest debutant in Posh’s Football League history when sent on as a substitute during their Checkatrade Trophy win at Barnet last Tuesday.

The former St Peter’s School pupil had known for several days that he would be in manager Grant McCann’s squad for the game – and that meant father Louie and friends could be present at The Hive.

Douglas said: “I have been with Peterborough since the age of nine and being part of their academy has been a real learning curve. I have really developed as a player and met some great people along the way.

“To be involved in a first team squad at only 16 was a great moment for me. I found out that I would be travelling to the game the previous Thursday so I had a while to get my head around it.

“The manager told me I deserved my chance and it was a good experience. I had quite a few friends and family in the crowd – my dad brought all his mates along.

“I wasn’t actually nervous when I was told I was going on – it was more a case of being excited and I tried to impress. The whole experience has given me a lot of confidence.”

Douglas, who played for Huntingdon Rowdies under the guidance of Alan Dalrymple before being snapped up by Posh, is one of five siblings.

His younger brother, Rio, is also in the Peterborough youth system. He plays for their Under 16 side.

Footballing talent clearly runs in the family as father, Louie, played the game in America and also turned out locally for Huntingdon Town.

Douglas snr said: “I’m so proud of Kasey. He is a grounded and respectful kid and I

really appreciate Grant giving him his opportunity.

“I know Kasey will continue to work hard to achieve his dream and hopefully his little brother can follow in his footsteps.”
