A total of 125 teams from across four counties did battle in 10 age groups during two days of five-a-side competition at the David Wilson Homes Ground.

The host club were able to toast two successes of their own in the Under 12 and Under 16 sections – the latter category actually provided an all-Town final.

Stukeley Meadows provided another local triumph in the Under 15 category while other age groups were won by Stevenage (Under 9), Isleham (Under 10), Melbourn Panthers (Under 11), Feeder Soccer (Under 13) and Netherton United (Under 14).

Godmanchester Town chairman Richard Cosbey said: “We’re delighted with how the second staging of our tournament went.

“Richard Ramsaran does a great job in ensuring it runs like clockwork from start to finish and we have received plenty of great feedback.

“It is already becoming one of the best-run events in the area and it wouldn’t be possible without the help of all the club’s managers, coaches and fantastic parents.”

The Godmanchester Town event marked the start of a busy run of summer tournaments which continues this weekend when St Ives Rangers and Sawtry Colts both stage two-day competitions.

The following weekend (June 9 and 10) it’s the turn of Godmanchester Rovers and Huntingdon Town Rowdies to stage their traditional summer events with St Neots-based club Priory Parkside following suit on June 17.
