CCA JUNIOR LEAGUE

A BATTING masterclass from Lee Smith led Abbots Ripton to a club record score for a 40-over match in a massive 141-run defeat of Over in Division 4A.

Smith smashed 15 sixes and 23 fours in his unbeaten 192 – taking his season average to 125 – as the hosts racked up 306-4.

He shared a 132-run partnership with Lee Bailey (60) before Over were bowled out for 165 in reply.

In Division 3A, opener Steve Baxter was also on the century trail as he struck an unbeaten 103 to help St Ives thirds to a 37-run victory at home against Willingham.

His knocked steered Ives to 215-3 from 40 overs and then Willingham’s reply was curtailed by Jerry Wood (3-19) and in the later stages by Steve Joyce (5-32), finishing them off for 178 in the 37th over.

Resurgent Needingworth moved off the bottom of the 2A table with a thumping 100-run victory over March Town thirds.

Daniel Sherlock top scored with 134 and was a knock which included 21 fours in the visitors’ 282-6 from their 40 overs.

March made 182 before losing their final wicket as Ben Carter (4-42) blew away the top order with some hostile pace bowling.

HUNTS COUNTY LEAGUE

HUNTINGDON continue to climb the table in Division One following their eight-wicket thrashing of Orton Park.

Orton were shot out for 98 in 31 overs with three wickets apiece for Nick Kumpukkul and Shalinder Ranaut.

And the game was won inside 16 overs with the in-form Craig Leigh (46no) steering them home.

Eaton Socon finally got back to winning ways with a comfortable 79-run victory at Alconbury in Division One.

Ben Reedman (46) topped scored in the visitors’ 164, Shaun Hubbard taking 4-28.

Alconbury then made a good start to their run chase, reaching 35-0 but then slumped to 85 all out as Chris Box and Asama Weerasekara both collected three victims.

Half centuries from Alex Grange (66) and Adam Hyde (50) inspired Warboys to a 45-run home victory against Ramsey seconds.

The pair helped the hosts put on 181-9 with Nick Page (4-33) and Jordan Cafferkey (4-46) among the wickets for Ramsey.

And that total proved to be sufficient as the visitors were bowled out for 136.

Eaton Socon seconds lost top spot in Division Three following their 23-run home defeat against Ickwell seconds.

Nick Staddon took 4-24 as Ickwell made 166-8 and, in reply, the hosts could only make 143 despite 50 from Brad Dickerson.

Huntingdon seconds battled to a narrow two-wicket success over Peterborough Town thirds.

Chasing 203-9, Huntingdon where cruising at 178-2, but a late collapse meant they had to scramble home, with Nathan Pond’s 87 leading the charge.

Elsewhere in Hunts 3, Warboys seconds were on the wrong end of a 29-run defeat against Hampton.

Bradley West took three wickets as the hosts ended their 45 overs on 179-7 but, in reply, Warboys were all out for 150.

Liam Gaynor stole the show for Huntingdon thirds as they beat Warboys thirds with ease by eight wickets in Division Five.

Batting first, Warboys posted 135 all out, thanks largely to a last-wicket partnership of 40 between Sam Vallance and Adam Bird, with Gaynor taking 3-22.

Gaynor then scored 92 as Huntingdon won within 23 overs to gain maximum points.

TUCKER PREMIER

GODMANCHESTER TOWN tasted a narrow one-wicket defeat at home against Nassington in Division One.

Opener Adam Cousins top scored with 36 in the hosts’ 182 but, despite 4-43 from Chethan William, Goddy were just unable to bowl out their visitors, who sneaked home.

In other action, Ramsey drew at home with Wisbech Town.

Opener Michael Cafferkey’s 55 helped get Ramsey to 187 before they were bowled out and then Travis Townsend (3-19) took over with the ball, but stubborn Wisbech finished on 143-9 to claim the draw.

It was another blow to Ramsey’s title hopes, as they now sit fourth – with Goddy fifth – while leaders March marched on with victory at Khalsa.

Seventh-placed St Ives, meanwhile, suffered a heavy 125-run defeat by second-bottom Ickwell.

Michael Chandler picked up four wickets in Ickwell’s 257 all out, but Ives fell well short with the bat, eventually collapsing to a disappointing 132 all out.

In Division Two, second-placed Waresley went down to a surprise six-wicket defeat – their first of the campaign – at Cambridge NCI.

Brenton Alp (60) top scored in the visitors’ total of 150 all out but Cambridge cruised home relatively comfortably with six wickets in hand, although Philip Gillett did collect a couple of wickets.

Spirited Godmanchester Town seconds made a decent fist of it in their match up with leaders Castor & Ailsworth, going down in the end by four wickets.

Paul Berrill (93) contributed the lion’s share of the visitors’ 184 all out – before Adam Rendall took three wickets with the ball for Goddy – but the leaders showed their grit and went on to claim victory.

The defeat means Goddy are still in the bottom two, but are improving, now just two points behind Weston Colville.

RUTLAND LEAGUE

A THREE-WICKET defeat was handed down to Eaton Socon by Nassington in Rutland Two.

Having been bowled out for 154 with Joe Donnelly (38) top scoring, Nassington reached their target for the loss of seven wickets, despite the best efforts of Jonny Carpenter (3-34).

There was a massive 185-run victory for Brampton over Warboys thirds in Division Four.

Andy Watts (56no) and Duncan McGregor (74no) batted superbly together as the home side ended on 242-3.

McGregor then capped a fine all-round display – taking 4-14 with the ball and contributing a run out – as Warboys were all out for 57, with only one batman reaching double figures.

In Division Six, good knocks from openers Barry Cavilla (88) and Ryan Vale (85) helped Eaton Socon seconds to an 86-run victory over Warboys seconds.

Az Nawaz also added 52 in a total of 285-7 – enough for victory with Warboys ending on 199-8, Dan Newman collecting 5-14.

Alconbury seconds record their third straight victory in Division Six with a 143-run win over Market Deeping seconds.

Richard King (55) and Gary Cole (76) put Alconbury in control having helped them post a total of 259-7 off 45 overs.

The visitors struggled to stay up with the required scoring rate from the off and tight bowling from Aaron Magee meant they only reached 116-6.
