There was a notable first for the new generation of Hunts bowls talent at the weekend.
Annie Lee, Rebecca Moorbey and Ross Martin became the first rink from the county Under 25 team to triumph in a Reg Wright Trophy match this season.
They overcame their Norfolk rivals 31-27 but could not prevent a 107-72 overall defeat in a contest played at Brampton on Sunday.
The rink of Jack Squire, Toby Furzeland and Hayden Moorbey also led after 20 ends of their match.
But they dropped a dozen shots in the final few ends to eventually go down to a 32-27 defeat.
Matt Herbert’s trio, featuring Kierren Murray and Kane Phillips, endured a tough afternoon as they tried in vain to play catch-up in a 48-14 reverse.
Squire and the two Moorbeys, who all hail from the Buckden club, were making their debuts
Hunts are still searching for a first overall victory of the season. They are back in action this Sunday when they travel to Ipswich to face Suffolk.
