CAMBOURNE Cricket Club have reason to celebrate on two fronts as both their first and second XIs have met with success in their respective leagues this season.

The firsts lifted the Division 3B title in fine style against championship rivals Longstanton II with a two wicket win. The visitors had posted a very respectable 181-6 but had always struggled to cope with Paul Darrington (5-19) who bowled with pace and aggression. With the title up for grabs Cambourne eased home at 185-8.

The seconds travelled to Little Thetford knowing that a win would secure the runners-up spot in Division 5A. Batting first, Chris Cundell (52) made sure his side had runs on the board as they ended on 137. Any fears of a loss were quickly put out of players minds as Peter Lee (5-15) bowled them to victory by 39 runs.

Cranfield Final

IN an exciting afternoon of cricket at Buckden it was Dean who lifted the Cranfield 8- a-side trophy with an over to spare following a win over Buckden in the final of three games.

Earlier they had defeated Eltisley, who had also lost their encounter against hosts Buckden in the first game of the day.

Batting first against Eltisley, Buckden had set the standard for the event by reaching 113-5 with club stalwart Paul Tidey (31) masterminding the innings. Eltisley looked to be cruising at 61-1 but then pressed the self-destruct button and were all out for 81. Only Eddie Relihan (31) showed real resistance.

Dean then played steadily to reach 107-6 against Eltisley in the afternoon's second match. Tom Firm (46) anchoring his side to what was to be a winning score. Eltisley's reply was slow from the start and they left themselves too much to do despite Sam Johnson's (34) classy knock. Richard Eady (4-17) always had the measure of the Eltisley batsmen who tailed off at 85-5.

The final and deciding game saw Buckden bat first against Dean. Richard Eady (3-24) maintained his line and length but Paul Bradding (40) helped Buckden to 98-5.

However, Dean never looked in trouble with Tom Russell (42*) and Shalinder Singh (33*) seeing Dean to 99-2.

Competition president Graham Baxter presented trophies to all three teams and the umpires awarded Richard Eady the "Man of the Finals Trophy". The competition Six Hit winner was Eddie Relihan of Eltisley with 14 sixes in this year's competition.

Dean added the trophy to the Coote Cup, which they lifted five weeks ago after defeating Eltisley in the final.

Hunts Leagues

Division 1

IN the final league games of the season in Division One, Huntingdon ended their campaign in third spot after a 33-run win at lowly Alconbury. They managed to reach a respectable 180-7 and Alconbury were always off the pace as they were dismissed for 147.

Ramsey II, the league's basement club, finished the season well beaten by Dean. Shalinder Singh (103) hit his first ever ton for the club and Tom Agnew (66) pushed the Dean total to 239-6, even though veteran Hedley Swannell (3-33) proved he still has what it takes. Ramsey were shot out by the ferocity of Richard Eady (6-21) for just 104.

Orton Park II (128-5) saw off a spirited Sawtry II (124 all out).

Division 5.

HUNTINGDON II were made to struggle to 131 as Oliver Day (4-34) returned excellent figures for Brampton. Ian Purser (53*) and Andy Canham (53) were both in the groove to ensure Huntingdon were no match for Brampton as they managed 132-4.

Cambs Leagues

It was then the turn of Nigel Buckingham-Jones (4-26) to turn the screws as the visitors struggled to 148 all out.

St Ives signed off their league campaign with a loss at Doddington. The home side racked up 292 after Ryan Withers (5-32) had caused some scares. Rob Setchell (60*) and Steve Setchell (59) tried to get St Ives home but they eventually fell 246 all out.

Yelling had batsman Dominic Walker (85) in great form as they totalled 198-7 but it was all in vain as hosts Royston steamed home at 199-3 with six overs to spare.

Needingworth II ran up an easy win as they overshadowed a poor Waterbeach II side. Simon McCarthy (47) and Josh Stimson (45) led the way to a final team total of 245-7 and with Ben Carter (3-6) leading the bowlers, Waterbeach did well to muster 80.

WARESLEY once again demolished their opponents in this Beds 3 clash that saw them lift the title at Biggleswade. Chris Whitfield (3-30) and Terry Hayden (3-40) then contributed to Biggleswade II downfall as they were all out for 180.

Youth Cricket

HUNTINGDONSHIRE'S U17 side visited Derbyshire for their last match of the season but were denied a chance of victory by some mystifying umpiring decisions combined with as the first class county's decision to bat for 110 overs.

After bowling Derbyshire out for 347, the Hunts side had just 96 overs to chase down the target. Led by Jon Carpenter (95), who was given great support by Mohammed Qadeer (32), the Hunts side got to 315-9 at close to leave them feeling disappointed with the draw.

Warboys U15s put up a brave fight in the County U15 Cup Final against Peterborough Town. Daniel Wright (50) led the way in Warboys' 116, but Town sneaked home in the 19th over thanks to the efforts of Callum French (68*).
