GODMANCHESTER Rovers continued to slide down the league as they were beaten at FC Clacton on Saturday.

A tight first half saw both sides create chances and Rovers put in a good performance but the game was goalless at the interval. The visitors kept pressing but after 75 minutes Chris Hyen was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area and David Coyle duly converted the penalty for the hosts to win.

Godmanchester Rovers co-manager Karl Hurst said: "I'm disappointed, not with the performance just with the result as we played very well but have nothing to show for it. We outplayed them for long periods and had some good chances and both goalkeepers made some decent saves.

"We started very brightly and made chances and it was quite even in the first half. Then the referee awarded them a penalty after Ben [Hyet] jumped in for the ball and it touched his arm. It was an aerial challenge and his arm was high but he certainly didn't mean to handle it so I think it's a bit harsh as that decision decided the game.

"We played as well as we have done for a couple of months but we are still struggling in the league. The result wasn't what we wanted but the performance was good and we've turned a corner now because we have started to play a lot better."

Godmanchester Rovers next play Stowmarket Town at Bearscroft Lane on Wednesday before heading to Saffron Walden Town on Tuesday 10. They have won just one of their last 11 league games and sit 11th in the league.
