Hunts AC duo Ty Farrer and Derek Darnell impressed on international duty last Sunday.

They were part of the England Masters team which took on the Celtic Nations in the Chester Marathon.

Farrer collected the silver medal in the M45 age bracket after producing a personal best of 2:36.32 – more than three minutes quicker than he had ever covered the 26.2 mile distance in the past.

Farrer’s fine performance earned him 18th place overall while clubmate Darnell also posted a new best of 3:14.58 when finishing 429th overall and 20th in the M55 section.

Four Huntingdon BRJ Run & Tri members also took part in the Chester Marathon.

Mark Elliott was their leading representative with a personal best of 3:14.36 while Shelley Duffy also lowered her marathon mark in 3:16.18.

Paul Mitton (3:27.34, personal best) and Marc Wall (3:52.45) were the other BRJ runners.

David Hudson continued his terrific run of form with third place in the Bournemouth Marathon – a race he completed in 2:30.40. Jane Roberts (3:54.05) also took part.

Rob Farrant headed across the Atlantic to run the Chicago Marathon in 2:59.10 while Chris Gale was also in action overseas as he tackled an even more demanding event. Gale finished the Barcelona Ironman – featuring a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and full marathon - in 12:54.32 to finish 209th in his division and just inside the top 2,000 overall.

Back on these shores, three other BRJ members competed through the night in the Long Mynd Hike.

David Newton, wife Annette Newton and Simon Lumley finished the 50-mile event across South Shropshire and the Welsh Marches in a shade over 17 hours.

Another husband and wife – Peter and Judith Newham – were in action at Wimpole. Peter completed the half marathon in 1:39.52 and Judith clocked 1:28.20 for the 10k event.

* BRJ wheelchair athlete Sophie Etheridge completed the Bedford Autodrome 5k in 35.35 along with support runner Kelly Robinson.
