EYNESBURY Rovers recorded their fifth consecutive win when they beat Sileby Rangers 1-0 at Fernie Fields on Saturday.

It was Shane Fox who scored the all-important goal in the 73rd minute – but the striker could have had more.

There were few chances in the first half but Lee Bassett was denied by the Sileby goalkeeper and Gavin Butt headed a corner over the bar.

After the break Eynesbury stepped up a gear and put the host’s defence under pressure. Jeremy McMurrough and Fox combined well to set up Tom Coles but his shot went wide while Darren Woodend’s downward header was blocked by the Sileby goalkeeper’s feet.

Sileby could have taken the lead but Koi Bennett shot straight at Carl Mackney when the striker was given a clear run at goal. However, Shane Fox beat his man inside the penalty area before slotting the ball home some after that and the nearest Rangers came to equalising was in the 78th minute when Joe Rich’s header was palmed over the bar by Mackney. Rovers should have increased their lead late on but Fox’s near-post shot was blocked and with two minutes remaining Ross West sent Bassett through but the goalkeeper was quick to come off his line.
