All good things must come to an end – and today that was the case for Eynesbury Rovers’ terrific unbeaten run.

A 12-match streak without defeat in the United Counties League Premier Division, which had included six successive victories, was brought to a sudden halt at Hall Road.

Lincolnshire side Sleaford Town were the team responsible for handing Rovers boss Mark Ducket his first taste of league defeat since taking over at the beginning of December.

It appeared to be business as usual for Eynesbury when the classy Alex Marsh fired them ahead with a fine drive just after the half-hour, but the visitors failed to read the same script as so many of Rovers’ recent opponents.

They struck twice in the final 17 minutes to turn a deficit into an advantage that left Eynesbury assessing a league defeat for the first time in just over three months.

The decisive goal arrived in the 89th minute when a free-kick slipped through the grasp of goalkeeper Ollie Sutton and squirmed over the line.

Bottom side Huntingdon were beaten 3-0 at Kirby Muxloe as new boss Bob Warby tasted Premier Division defeat for the first time.

Town are now 12 points from safety with only 10 games remaining.
