Eynesbury boss Mark Ducket is fighting off interest in his number one from a set of National League North strugglers.

Rovers goalkeeping prospect Ollie Sutton – the son of former Norwich and Celtic striker, Chris – was wanted by bottom side Corby Town.

But Sutton, who has impressed since being drafted in from St Neots Town in December, is expected to remain at Hall Road for the rest of the season.

Ducket said: “Ollie is a terrific prospect and he is attracting a lot of interest. We are very lucky to have him at our level and it is inevitable he will move on at some point in the near future.

“But he has to ensure the move he makes is the right one, and joining a team who look like they could well be relegated might not be it. I’m hopeful he will stay with us until the end of the season.”

Sutton couldn’t prevent Eynesbury from bowing out of the United Counties League KO Cup last Tuesday night. They suffered a 1-0 defeat at Cogenhoe in a quarter-final tie.

And they were again short of their best last Saturday when being held to a 2-2 draw at Boston Town in the Premier Division. Matty Bannister hit a brace late in the first half to haul Rovers level.

Ducket added: “We were battered in every department – apart from football, as there was very little of that played – at Cogenhoe.

“It was a frustrating night and the result at Boston was another blip, but I must give the lads their dues for fighting back to level.

“The Boston goalkeeper was their best player in the second half as we created several chances without managing to put one away.

“Even though we have only lost one of our last 18 league games, we’ve dropped a few points lately and we need to start making them back.”

A return clash against Boston Town, scheduled for last night, was postponed due to a re-organisation of fixtures.

Eynesbury’s next action is a home clash against fellow top-six side Kirby Muxloe at Hall Road this Saturday.

Eynesbury full-back Elliot Bentley has spent two weeks on trial at Scottish side Hearts, but he is favouring a move to America on a scholarship programme.
