Eynesbury Rovers manager Mark Ducket has issued a rallying cry to the people of St Neots ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Sutton Coldfield.

Rovers will be playing in the first qualifying round of the competition for the first time in 21 years, and Ducket would like as many people as possible to come and support his side.

He said: “I would absolutely love to see the town out in force for the game. It’s going to be a special day for everyone at the club, and especially for me as I have a lot of family coming to watch the game.

“We want as many people as possible to come and enjoy the occasion; this game is for the people who run the club on a volunteer basis.

“Some of them have been at the club for a very long time, it’s only right that they and the fans enjoy this occasion, it might be another 20 years before it happens again.” Eynesbury have a big task ahead of them, as their opposition play two levels above them in the Northern Premier League, however, Ducket isn’t fazed by playing higher level opposition.

He said: “Sutton Coldfield will be a very good side, but this group of players always raise their game when they play the top sides.

“I’d love to cause an upset and at the end of the day it’s one 90 minute game, and anything can happen, I think we will give it a really good go.”

Eynesbury’s preparation for the game took a dent, as they went down 4-1 to Harborough Town at the weekend, with Ducket missing several key first team players.

He said: “I had seven or eight of my squad missing due to injury, but credit to Harborough; they stuck to their game plan and we didn’t have an answer to it.”

Rovers are due to travel to play Blackstones in the United Counties League Knockout Cup on Wednesday night (August 31).
