EYNESBURY will be desperate to “put one over” on Bugbrooke when the two sides meet again at Hall Road in UCL Division One this weekend – according to manager Matt Plumb.

Third-placed Bugbrooke earned a thumping 5-1 win in the reverse fixture back in February, but will now be facing a Rovers side who have turned the corner somewhat over the past week.

Their 2-0 home win over Bourne last Tuesday- when Adam Boothby and Dave Fisk were the scoresheet – ended a run of six league games without a win.

And they followed that up with an even more impressive 2-0 win at fourth-placed Long Buckby on Saturday, thanks to a 14th minute Darren Woodend header and a Lee Bassett penalty eight minutes from time.

It was a win that moved Eynesbury back up to fifth ahead of Saturday’s return home fixture with third-placed Bugbrooke.

Plumb said: “It’s another opportunity to show those kind of sides that we are better what we’ve shown at times this season.

“We need to put one over on them really – and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.

“The 5-1 scoreline over there was a bit unfair in my opinion as, although we didn’t play particularly well, everything they hit went in and sometimes it’s like that, especially when things aren’t going for you.”

The Eynesbury boss is also keen for his side to carry their recent momentum on into the remaining games.

“What I don’t want to do is slip down the table and finish in the bottom six or seven, which is still possible,” Plumb said.

“We now want to accumulate as many points as we can and, although we’re not going to finish much higher than fifth, there’s an opportunity to finish, what has been a disappointing season overall, respectably.”

Reflecting on the weekend win at Olney, Plumb said: “After we got a result from quite a poor side in Bourne, I was just pleased with the way we knuckled down and got on with it against one of the division’s top sides.

“We drew with Olney at home last month and, if I’m honest, we should have got a result against them that day too.

“But Saturday was a fair result and sometimes, if you play the right way and earn it, it goes for you.”

Midfielder Scott Kingsbury has returned to Eynesbury, after a short spell at Huntingdon, but Plumb said he is mainly looking to utilise his youth team players – as well as keeping faith with his current group - until the end of the season.
