EYNESBURY Rovers sit proudly on top of the league after their weekend win, but they made life difficult for themselves as they overcame bottom club Irchester United.

Rovers left it late to make their mark on this game, leaving co-manager Pat O'Keefe on the edge of his seat.

The visitors left until the last 10 minutes to get on the score sheet. But what a final 10 minutes: Jamie Graham snatched a late hat-trick and Brett Bellamy smashed in an 18 yarder.

O'Keefe told The Hunts Post he thought the breakthrough was never going to come.

"We have lacked that little bit of composure in front of goal for a number of games then inside the final 10 minutes our players proved what they are all about," he said,

"The next game will prove if we have what it takes to retain our top position."

Rovers were missing a number of key players and drafted in Andy Clare and Dan Tyler from the reserves. And it was Clare who came close to giving Eynesbury a 5th minute lead, heading narrowly wide from a Bellamy corner.

Towards the end of the first half Craig Pickstone shot wide for Eynesbury and Tyler missed the target on two occasions before the action finished with Clare again missed a chance.

Rovers should have been clear by the break, but were lucky not to have slipped behind when Jason Vaughan broke through the centre. With just the keeper to beat he shot wide.

Back at the other end Graham was twice denied by the Irchester keeper whilst Tyler volleyed wide and Bellamy saw his goal bound shot blocked by a defender.

Irchester's resistance was finally broken 10 minutes from time when Graham picked the ball up on the halfway line, ran into the penalty area and placed the ball into the top corner.

The relief from the Rovers players was evident and the floodgates opened. Three minutes later Bellamy scored with a shot from the edge of the box.

Graham scored his second in the 86th minute and in the final minute completed his hat trick to seal a 4-0 win.
