Olney Town 2-1 Eynesbury Rovers

THERE was controversy at the Alfred Hall Memorial Ground on Saturday when Eynesbury Rovers thought they had scored a late equaliser only to be denied by the referee.

Having won their first two league games, Rovers were quietly confident going into their game against the also unbeaten Olney Town, but by the half-time break they were 1-0 down after Darren Woodend’s foul on the edge of the area resulted in a 21st-minute free kick which was hit home by Ian Lindop.

Shane Fox equalized early in the second half – his fourth goal in the three matches – but in the 68th minute goalkeeper Carl Mackney was adjudged to have brought down Olney’s Stuart Allen and it was Allen himself who slotted the ball home from the spot.

Jeremy McMurrough and Neil Morris both had chances for a second equaliser while Fox has a decent effort saved by Suart Dorrill.

And then came the controversial moment. With the game six minutes into time-added on, it looked as though Tom Coles had salvaged a point. However, his celebrations were cut short when the referee failed to signal a goal, saying the striker’s header had not fully crossed the line.
