Charlotte Edwards’ England team have been beaten by Australia in a three-match one-day series which forms part of the Women’s Ashes.

England made the perfect start with a four-wicket win in the opening clash at Taunton last Tuesday before Australia levelled with a 63-run success at Bristol last Thursday.

England were beaten again as they suffered an 89-run defeat in the final one-day clash at Worcester on Monday. They were dismissed for 152 as they chased an Australian posting of 241-7.

Skipper Edwards, from Pidley, said: “The series is still wide open and there is a long way to go yet.”

The teams do battle again in a Test match at Canterbury – Edwards’ home ground as she plays her domestic cricket for Kent – which starts on August 11.

The Women’s Ashes are decided on a points system and Australia have a 4-2 lead going into the Test where victory is worth four points.
