HUNTINGDONSHIRE AC athletes claimed four wins at the Cambridgeshire County Schools Championships held in Cambridge on Saturday. Jonathan Edwards led the way for the club, winning the Senior Boys discus, shot putt and hammer throw, and achieving the qualifying distance for the English Schools Championships, to be held next month, in all three. In the hammer, Edwards added nearly three metres to his existing club record, breaking the 50-metre barrier for the first time and launching himself into the national top 20 rankings. In the Intermediate Boys section, Jordan Gillbanks continued his winning season with two firsts in the 400m and the 400m hurdles. Gillbanks has already achieved the English Schools qualifying standard for the 400m, and is just 0.4 secs from the 400m hurdles time. Lily Seach claimed gold medals in both the Intermediate Girls 200m and 300m, while Ailish Park unleashed her furthest-ever throw to win the Intermediate Girls javelin title. Hunts AC athletes go in search of qualifying marks again this Saturday, at the Anglian Schools Championships in Boston.
