EATON Socon got the better of a high-scoring match against Warboys in a battle of two mid-table teams in Hunts Division One.
The key to Socon’s victory was a magnificent fourth-wicket stand from Carl Baker (108*) and Joe Dawborn (68*), which turned around the innings. Baker went from 50 to 100 in just 24 balls, including three sixes.
Until that point, Warboys had made the Socon batsmen work extremely hard for their runs, with Steve Latchford, Richard O’Leary and Steve Hill each taking a wicket as Socon hit 247-3.
As they began chasing their target of 248, Warboys looked shaky and lost an early wicket when Richard Nicklin’s quick thinking saw Ryan Humphrey (1) run out.
Solid knocks from Dominic Hills (34) and Roger Allpress (68*) at four and five pulled Warboys towards the 200 mark for the extra batting point, but they could go no further than 210-9 in their 45 overs.
The wickets were shared for Eaton, with Dave Unwin (2-57), Matt Childerley (2-45) and Joe Dawborn (2-36) each grabbing a pair.
