NEVILLE Cooper is hoping Eaton Socon’s excellent 7-2 win over Great Paxton in the quarter finals of the Hunts FA Scott Gatty Cup will be a springboard for the club’s league form this season.

Eaton have just six points in the Premier Division of the Kershaw Cambs League but are being kept off the bottom because fellow strugglers Chatteris Town have a worse goal difference.

But, after booking their place in another semi final – they are already in two this season – Cooper told The Hunts Post: “We just need some consistency. I have used 44 players this season and that’s probably the main problem.

“I have a terrific bunch of players here, it’s just a case of getting the best 11 on the field at the same time.

“We went and beat Linton Granta 5-2 and they won this division by 10 points last season.”

Cooper sung the praises of new faces Nathan Field, Dan Woodhead and striker Josh Sadler after their win over Paxton, who are sixth in the Cambs League Senior A division, one level below Socon.

Adam Boothby scored twice, while Scott Kingsbury, Shane Maloney, Sadler and substitute Darren Blackall also got on the score sheet, with an own goal making seven. For Paxton, Ashleigh Lewis struck the two consolation goals.

“I would like to think this is a springboard,” said Cooper, who admitted, “It doesn’t get any easier.”

Eaton will now host Hemingfords United in the semi finals in January after they beat Needingworth United in their Cup Senior A derby at Manor Road.

Cambs League Premier Division side Brampton were beaten 3-0 at Peterborough & District Premier Division strugglers Riverside Rovers, who will meet Sawtry – who are sixth in Division One of the P&D League – after they put out Premier Division side Stilton United with a 2-0 home win.
