A NEW Twenty20-style golf championship - where players have two flags to aim at - is coming to Huntingdonshire. The event is part of the Crown Golf National PowerPlay Golf Championships and will give players the chance to try their hand at the new, exciting form of the game. Abbotsley Golf Club will be the venue for the unusual tournament, as one of 30 qualifying venues around the UK for the championship final. Played over nine holes, each green in a game of PowerPlay gold has two flags, rather than one. Players on a PowerPlay aim for the black flag, the harder of the two, with extra points as a reward for birdies or better. The risk-and-reward format heightens tension and PowerPlay Golf has been widely praised by top pro golfers, golf writers, sports stars and celebrities alike this summer. Sponsors Crown Golf - Britain's largest golf course owner with 32 venues in the UK - have lent their name to the championship, which is the world's first national PowerPlay Golf event. Members and visitors at Abbotsley are set to try the exciting new game for themselves on Wednesday, August 22, while taking a tilt at a national title in the process. Entry is \u00A315 for non-members and \u00A36 for members and includes a buffet meal afterwards. Handicap limit for men is 28, and 36 for women and juniors. The first tee-off time will be 1.30pm Nicky Briggs, general manager of Abbotsley Golf Club, said: "We are looking forward to welcoming members and visitors to a great afternoon out at our club. "PowerPlay Golf is great fun, but very competitive, too, so everyone's going to really enjoy themselves. "The event is for all local golfers, not just our members, and has the added bonus of free Titleist Pro V1s with the special PowerPlay Golf logo and prizes for the top three finishers." The top two qualifiers from each event will be invited to compete in the Crown Golf National PowerPlay Golf Championship Final at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club on September 16.
