Kimbolton School pupil Harriet Fenton enjoyed a successful finish to the season by sampling pentathlon glory at the Eastern Combined Event Championships.

Not only was Fenton the first Cambridgeshire athlete to finish in the Under 15 age group – which attracted 35 entries – she also succeeded in hitting her target for 2016.

That was to break a long-standing Peterborough AC record and the 14 year-old managed it by 26 points despite being slightly below par in her strongest trio of events – the high jump, the long jump and the shot put.

But she made up for that with personal-best performances in what are typically her two weaker events – the hurdles and the 800m - to record an overall score of 2,659.

Fenton also won medals at the Cambridgeshire County Championships and the Cambridgeshire Schools’ Championships as she enjoyed a successful return to action during this summer after missing much of 2015 following a series of injury setbacks.
