A depleted St Ives squad delivered a battling display in their latest Arena National League outing last Saturday.

The local club were without 15 first-choice swimmers due to injury and illness for the East Midlands Division Two 'A' Final at Biggleswade.

And while they brought up the rear on the night in a tough field of five clubs, there were still plenty of highlights with many swimmers having to take on older and more experienced rivals.

James Quinn collected 100m breaststroke victories at Men's Open and Boys 15yrs levels while Janos Kadar took the 50m backstroke honours in the Boys 11yrs bracket.

Quinn also featured in two St Ives relay squads which claimed excellent runners-up finishes. He teamed up with Evan Taylor, Thomas Davis and Lucas Dove in the Men's Open medley event and lined up alongside Ed Cochrane, Harry Everett and Toby Offord in the Boys' 15yrs medley.

The Girls 13yrs medley relay quartet of Millie Taylor, Anna Freeman, Ciara Taylor and Sian Woods, the Boys 13yrs medley relay team made up of Luke Tunstall, Joshua Marshall, William Coleman and Elliot Dickson, and the Girls 15yrs freestyle relay squad of Isabel Hemingway-Stark, Connie Newstead, Freeman and Charlotte Flynn all took third places.

Keira Mavin (Girls 11yrs 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke), Marshall (Boys 13yrs 100m breaststroke), Offord (Boys 15yrs 100m backstroke), Davis (Men's Open 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke), Ciara Taylor (Girls 13yrs 100m backstroke), Fran Crocker (Women's Open 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke) also finished third.

Georgia Newstead, Grace Iddon, Anna Desborough, Olivia Brown, Thomas Sprawson, Oliver Dickson, Alfie Reeve, Amy Coleman, Simon Bradford and Freddie Clark also represented the club well.

City of Cambridge B triumphed with host club Biggleswade finishing as runners-up. Sherwood Colliery (third) and Dereham Otters (fourth) were also involved.
