A DEFENSIVE crisis was too much for Huntingdon Town to overcome on Saturday as their run of three straight UCL Division One wins was halted at Harborough.

Illness and suspension at centre-half meant manager Al Lenihan had to do without three players and was forced to shuffle his backline.

Harborough were two up inside 20 minutes thanks to goals from Alex McMillan and Chris Wake before Greg Pitt added a third a minute from time.

Dan Drane did miss a penalty for Huntingdon, who unfortunately squandered chances to get back into the match before conceding a third.

Manager Al Lenihan said: “It took us 20 minutes to settle after juggling it around defensively, but by that time, we were already 2-0 down.

“After that we absolutely battered them, but we just didn’t have our shooting boots on.”

Their first league defeat since the opening day leaves Huntingdon 11th in the table ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bugbrooke.

Lenihan continued: “We’ve got games in hand and we play Thrapston, who have title ambitions, home and away before the end of the month.

“It’s such an open league and I think we’ll have a better idea of where we stand after those two games.”

n Goals from Drane and Jon Gull fired Huntingdon to a 2-0 UCL League Cup first round win at Olney last Wednesday.
