The thoughts of the St Neots Town manager

THERE’S still a long way to go but we’re firmly in the driving seat now.

That was the view of Saints manager Dennis Greene as he reflected on another key week in the race to win the UCL Premier.

Neots’ 4-0 weekend win at Sleaford followed up on their midweek 5-2 home success over Newport Pagnell.

Pagnell’s slim title hopes ended with a 4-2 home defeat against King’s Lynn on Saturday, but the Linnets’ two dropped points at Stewarts & Lloyds, following a 3-3 draw last Tuesday, means the Saints boast a six-point advantage at the top, although have played a game more.

Greene said: “Pagnell are certainly out of it now, there’s no way back for them from 13 points back.

“It’s been a fantastic week for us results wise and means that we could still afford to lose the return league fixture at King’s Lynn on April 16 and still be in the driving seat.

“Although I think there will be points dropped outside of that game, but at least it gives us a bit of breathing space.

“We’ve got some good remaining fixtures but also some very tricky ones – Peterborough Northern Star, Stewarts & Lloyds, Long Buckby and King’s Lynn all away.

“Lynn have to win every game and there’s still 30-odd points up for grabs so, in that respect, there’s a long way to go.

“But the bottom line is that, if they drop points again before us, then I think we’re home and hosed.”

With a suspension looming for Stefan Moore, Greene revealed he is actively working to bolster his striking options and, having put in approaches for two players, hopes to speak to them later this week.
