Dawborn gets his chance to bowl over Northamptonshire
JOE Dawborn, a right arm fast bowler from Eaton Socon and Godmanchester cricket clubs, has forced his way into the elite game following a series of excellent performances for his clubs, Huntingdonshire’s under-17s, and Huntingdonshire County Cricket Club.
Dawborn, who is 18 in January, took 14 wickets at under-17 level last season and a further 19 wickets for Hunts. He was also a member of the Huntingdonshire under-15s squad that reached the national B Division Final in 2009 and is the current Huntingdonshire County Player of the Year, the highest honour for any cricketer, junior or adult, in the county game.
Dawborn, pictured receiving his Player of the Year trophy from England cricket legend Mike Gatting, was invited to play in a number of development games at Northamptonshire and has recently been awarded an Emerging Academy place at the club which will see him attending winter Academy cricket development activities there.
Huntingdonshire cricket development officer David Summers said: “Joe has fully deserved his opportunity at the first class county with many outstanding performances last season.”
It is certainly an exciting time for young Huntingdonshire cricketers - and the Hunts Post will be featuring three more players linked with county sides over the forthcoming weeks.
