Three St Ives Cycling Club youngsters braved the wintry conditions to collect medals last Sunday.

Ruby O’Dell (Under 10 Girls) and Sapphire Curtis (Under 14 Girls) were runners-up in their respective age groups in the 12th round of the Eastern Region League.

They had to negotiate a snowy course at the Chantry Park venue in Ipswich.

It was just as tough going for Nathan Gibson as he recorded a fine third place in the second round of the Winter MTB Series in King’s Lynn. Gibson impressed in the Junior Male category.

Fellow St Ives rider Beatrice Pauley faced a tough journey as well as a difficult race in the fifth round of the National Trophy.

Pauley finished in a creditable 17th position in the Under 14 Girls race despite hitting mechanical problems on the final lap.

That meant she had to carry her bike while running to the finish of a course made treacherous by mud and ice.
