ST IVES Cycling Club’s mountain bike team had its biggest win of the year on Sunday at the Wiggle Enduro Six.

Racing regulars Tracey Ibbett and Jackie Wren won the female pairs category, in the closely-fought Staffordshire endurance race.

Situated in the grounds of Catton Hall, the course had the usual blend of fast grassy flats and technical single track.

The short but punishing climbs soon took their toll on the riders as the hours and laps crept by after the 10am race start.

The St Ives pairing had a simple pre-race plan - to change riders every lap and see how things progressed, although Wren’s racing instinct took over immediately as she attacked the course.

Ibbett soon realized the strength of their position and, as the St Ives team took the lead on the second lap, both riders were well matched and lapping consistently in around 40 minutes.

After six hours of high intensity racing the chequered flag was waved and the determined team had covered nine laps in 6.04hrs.

Also riding for St Ives in the male pairs category where Andy Wylde and Alan Moules - where the dependable duo finished well in 36th place from 122 teams.

Mountain biking veteran Ian Hirst, meanwhile, finished 74th out of 128 competitors in the solo male category.
