A TRIO from St Ives Cycling Club helped the team claim the team prize at the second round of the Northants and District Cycling Association time-trial.

Mick Hodson, Neil Coventry and Paul Davis finished the day with the three fastest accumulated times and beat other local rivals for the team award, elevating the St Ives club to third overall in the league championship.

The rolling 10-mile course started in Lamport and was made even more difficult by the strong north easterly cross-winds.

Heading out to Rothwell, the continuous rise and fall of the Northamptonshire hills make for slow progress until the riders turned into the finishing straights towards Old.

Hodson came home in second overall, behind winner Jamie Scott (Colbert Cycles) but also won first prize in his age category, while Coventry was just 55 seconds behind in sixth spot, but also first in his slightly more senior age category.

Time trialling expert Davis completed the podium finishing eighth overall.

Phil Peacock delivered his usual dependable ride, accumulating vital points towards the overall league postion, whilst the father and son combination of Stuart and Hugo Hocknell kept it a family affair, although the finishing times showed youth beats experience.

St Ives Results: Mick Hodson 22:49 (2nd), Neil Coventry 23:44 (6th); Paul Davis 23:48 (8th); Phil Peacock 24:36 (18th); Hugo Hocknell 25:12 (22nd); Stuart Hocknell 33:17 (64th); Adrian Carroll 36:04 (67th).
