CRICKETERS at Godmanchester Town rounded off an excellent season with victory in the Smith Barry Senior Cup final against Cambridge Granta.
The final, held at Ramsey, saw Goddy pick up their fourth win since 1991 by just four runs.
Two depleted sides contested the game and Cambridge looked to be on top with Godmanchester on 91-7 and skipper Jason Coleman taking 5-67.
However, a superb 95 partnership between Paul Swannell (81) and 14-year-old Taylor West (35) steered Goddy to a respectable score of 197.
Jacques Du Toit (3-36) was the other Granta bowler to perform well, while David McCallum was the only other batsman to make double figures.
Granta's opening four batsmen all made double figures but none could post the big innings needed to make a successful chase.
After his batting heroics, Swannell was again the star with the ball, taking 6-80 as well as claiming a vital catch off Iain Housden to remove the dangerous Du Toit.
Cambridge batsman Matt Hobbs (31) almost changed the course of the match but once Swannell had him caught by Dan Berrill, Granta ran out of deliveries and slumped to 193-8, four runs short.
Meanwhile, the club's second XI has won promotion to the Tucker Gardner Premier Division, thanks to an unexpected defeat for Khalsa.
A gritty performance from Goddy - the long-time division leaders - earned them a draw against Cambridge Granta II to seal the promotion.
John Stoykovski was the hero with the bat, playing a composed innings of 74 not out to guide his side to a draw and the points required to go up.
The weekend triumphs add to Godmanchester's catalogue of successes this season. In recent weeks, the club's first team secured their best-ever finish of second in the East Anglian Premier League, the second team won the Rutland League Division 6 and the third team won Hunts League Division 3.
