Tom Griffiths’ men collected a second successive Whiting & Partners Division One victory yesterday when triumphing at promoted St Ives by seven wickets.

Australian opener Jack Anglberger (a teenager with a UK passport) top-scored with 69 as Waresley eased past their hosts’ offering of 215 with eight overs to spare. Alex Scully added an unbeaten 52 and Charlie Lewis fell just three runs of a half-century of his own.

Scully (3-53) had earlier been one of three Waresley bowlers to claim three wickets along with Michael Ninneman (3-23) and Jake Allcock (3-40).

Speedster Ninneman, another Australian import, had St Ives in deep trouble at 12-3 before Nikhil Kumpukkal (73) and skipper Ricky Greiller (59) added 117 for the fourth wicket.

St Ives man Shaun Asplin later became the fourth bowler to take three wickets in the game with his 10 overs earning 3-21.

Ramsey claimed their first victory of 2017 when thumping newly-promoted March by 161 runs.

A big-hitting 90 from Taylor West (which included six fours and five sixes, and took just 87 balls to amass) was the highlight at Cricketfield Lane as Ramsey roared to 265-6.

New Aussie recruit Isaac Love hit a first half-century on these shores with an unbeaten 51 and then impressed with the ball as he spun his way to 3-8 off seven super-tight overs.

There were also two wickets apiece for Kasim Ikhlaq and Jon Case as March were skittled for 104.

Godmanchester Town slipped to a 48-run reverse at Ketton. Skipper Matt Durrant (31) provided the only sizeable contribution with the bat as his men were dismissed for 103 in pursuit of 151.

Eaton Socon suffered a second successive defeat when going down by 137 runs against Saffron Walden.

The visitors piled up 243-5 at Peppercorns Lane before Eaton Socon barely made it into three figures in reply.

Matt Rawling’s 32 was the only innings of any substance for Socon. Just three other batsmen made it into double-figures as they were removed for 106 in 31.5 overs.

Kimbolton and Huntingdon & District have enjoyed excellent starts in Whiting & Partners Division Two.

Kimbolton piled up the runs yesterday as they condemned Warboys to back-to-back defeats in the process.

Young guns Michael Ridley (83no) and Michael Armenakis (68) both delivered personal-best knocks at this level as Kimbolton reached 300-4.

A Warboys side, depleted by the early departure of skipper Matt Duncan and Liam Gaynor, for footballing reasons could only manage half of the total of their hosts.

Darren Hyde (32) and Chris Newton (30) offered the most resistance while Ben Szczepanski claimed 3-30 for Kimbolton.

Huntingdon & District beat Warboys on the opening day of the campaign and followed up by sinking Burwell 2nds by 13 runs at St Peters Road yesterday.

Craig Leigh’s men successfully defended their posting of 144 as Nomi Khan claimed four wickets and Asif Khan struck three times.
