Ramsey skipper Michael Cafferkey admits the Cambs & Hunts Premier League top-flight title race will be over – if his side can’t succeed where all before them have failed tomorrow.

The second-placed locals entertain clear leaders Ketton in a top-of-the-table Whiting & Partners Division One clash at Cricketfield Lane, 12.30pm.

And while Cafferkey accepts that nothing less than victory will do if Ramsey are to reduce a 50-point gap between themselves and their unbeaten visitors, he revealed his men are relishing the challenge that lies ahead.

“Big games like this are the reason we all play sport and it’s great to have the opportunity to test our skills against the best team this season,” said Cafferkey.

“Ketton have been supremely consistent and haven’t lost yet this summer. There’s no doubt they deserve to be top of the table, but hopefully we can get a result to make things interesting.

“It’s a big gap at the moment, but a victory for us would eat into that and put them under pressure. If we don’t win on Saturday, it will be very tough for us or anyone else to catch Ketton.

“We have Foxton and Saffron Walden, who are both in the top six as well, on the next two Saturdays and this little run is going to have a big impact on the season.”

Ramsey are without star bowler Mark Edwards for the visit of Ketton due to holiday.

Ramsey were one of many local teams beaten by the weather last weekend.

Cafferkey was in the runs with a smart 79 as his side reached 209 at struggling Histon before the heavens opened. Taylor West also performed well with the bat, falling three runs short of a half-century.

Ramsey lost no ground on Ketton as their clash against locals Waresley was also brought to a premature conclusion.

Ketton were 9-0 when the action was halted three overs into their reply to Waresley’s posting of 168-8. Alex Scully (49) and Cambridgeshire man Charlie Lewis (42) were the chief run-scorers for Waresley.

Eaton Socon’s local derby with Godmanchester Town and bottom side St Ives’ outing against reigning champions Foxton were also abandoned.

St Ives now find themselves 73 points from safety after third-bottom Histon gained extra points before their performance with the ball against Ramsey.
