Upwood were the big winners last weekend when the vast majority of local action was washed out by weather.

The villagers boosted their promotion bid in Division Three of the Hunts League thanks to a seven-wicket demolition job on lowly Burghley Park 2nds.

They needed only 17.2 overs in which to skittle the visitors for 54 with Hayder Ali (4-25) and Adam Dean (3-1) excelling before they eased past that modest tally with little alarm to climb to within seven points of the top two.

The only other fixtures to be completed all ended in defeat for the local side involved – and Upwood also feature on that list.

Their Sunday side didn’t fare anywhere near as well as the Saturday team when being beaten by 203 runs at Division Five title-chasers Sheikh XI.

Upwood were removed for 98 in pursuit of their hosts’ 306-7 despite an unbeaten 52 from Mitch Newman.

Hayden Bream also hit a half-century in defeat last Sunday as Sawtry lost by five wickets to Bourne 2nds in Rutland League Division Four West.

Warboys were pushed closer to their inevitable relegation in Whiting & Partners Division Two when being beaten in the sole Cambs & Hunts Premier League contest to be settled last Saturday.

Warboys were dismissed for 94 at Great Shelford, who then smoothly completed an eight-wicket success in little more than 10 overs. Daniel Hyde (32) and Matt Cooksey (27) provided the majority of Warboys’ runs, putting on 49 for the third wicket.

Bluntisham’s title challenge in the Cambs Junior League was dealt a blow by a loss to another set of Division One North championship chasers.

The locals saw a seven-game winning streak come to an end when they were beaten by Isleham by five wickets. They collapsed to 128 all out despite a 72-run opening stand from Steve Dighton (39) and Ben Austin (29).

Division Two North leaders St Ives 2nds came up agonisingly short at Wisbech 3rds.

They went down by one run when dismissed for 108 in pursuit of their hosts’ offering of 109.

Simon Pawley (4-17) and Dominic Stevens (3-15) bowled superbly for the St Ives side while youngster Archie Ablewhite top-scored with 34.

Needingworth 2nds went down by eight wickets at Isleham 2nds in a shortened Division Four North clash.
