It’s all change at Waresley.

The club have lost the leading Whiting & Partners Division One wicket-taker of last summer, their highest run-scorer, three other senior players and a fine prospect.

Aussie quick bowler Michael Ninneman (who claimed 52 victims in 2017) and his countryman, opening batsman Jack Anglberger, have not returned.

Skipper Tom Griffiths and Alex Scully have gone to Burwell, Jake Allcock has moved to Histon and highly-rated youngster Josh Smith is playing for Brixworth in the Northants League.

It means new captain Steve Warman inherits a much-changed team with retaining their top-flight status the main goal.

The form of Tushaar Garg – their new Australian pace ace – will be key. Dan Cummins, an Aussie with an UK passport, will be expected to perform well with the bat.

Warman said: “We hope to build on last season’s success by maintaining our Division One status with a committed pool of players – potentially blooding some younger local lads as the season progresses.”

Waresley host Histon – and Allcock - in their curtain-raiser this Saturday.

Kimbolton return to Whiting & Partners Division One for the first time in 11 years.

The villagers’ earned promotion with a runners-up finish in Whiting & Partners Division Two last season.

Their star turn was Jason Redinger who piled up 871 runs and also snared himself almost 30 wickets. Not only does the South African ace return for 2018 – he succeeds James Biddle as captain.

Biddle’s availability will be limited this year while Martin Burton and Rory Fenton won’t be around at all after moving on.

That means runs from new recruit Hewa Atapattu will be needed. He had a handful of outings for Peterborough Town in the tough Northants Premier Division last summer.

The recent wet weather forced Kimbolton to push back their opening fixture at home to March from this Saturday until May 28.

That means their first outing will now be a trip to Ramsey on April 28.
