There can be few batsmen in better nick than high-scoring Huntingdon & District 2nds star Zubair Maqsood right now.

The prolific opener had never hit a century in senior cricket until recently, but he has now made two in successive Hunts League matches.

He managed 102 in a Division Three win against Burghley Park 2nds last month and followed up with an even more impressive innings of 140no during a 170-run triumph against Hampton 2nds last Saturday.

Maqsood thumped 23 fours and a six in his latest stellar knock as Huntingdon & District 2nds piled up 258-2 before dismissing their Peterborough-based visitors for just 88.

And he wasn’t the only player to impress as hot prospect Kaif Imran collected a second five-wicket haul of the summer. The 13 year-old finished with figures of 5-19 to better a 5-24 effort earlier in the campaign.

Huntingdon & District 2nds are emerging as promotion challengers in a section still led by Sawtry.

A fine all-round contribution from Hayden Bream, who followed up three wickets with a knock of 74, helped the table-toppers to a four-wicket win against Peterborough team Falcon XI.

Dave Atkinson and James Wiltshire matched Bream’s bowling feat as Sawtry dismissed their hosts for 203. Veteran Ian Bonsall then added an unbeaten 57 as they surpassed that tally with more than three overs to spare.

But there was disappointment for Upwood as they went down by seven wickets at fellow promotion hopefuls Biggleswade.

There’s no stopping revitalised Brampton in Division Four!

Andy Watts’ men suffered six successive defeats to start the 2017 season in miserable style, but they’re now on a high after a hat-trick of wins.

The latest of those arrived last Saturday when they saw off Kimbolton 2nds by five wickets and featured an excellent Andy Canham performance.

He was the pick of Brampton’s bowlers with 3-32 as they removed the visitors for 152 and then hit a third half-century of the summer to top-score with 54 in the successful chase.

Little Paxton are mounting a promotion challenge in their first season at that level.

The Beavis brothers, Reece, who hit 38, and Troy, who claimed 3-35, made important contributions in a 13-run success against Ickwell 2nds.
