Amit Gupta hit a high-class century as Godmanchester Town’s long wait for a Cambs & Hunts Premier League win came to an end on Saturday.

Matt Durrant’s men hadn’t tasted Whiting & Partners Division One success since the opening day of the season, but they saw off Histon by 123 runs.

Gupta hit a terrific 149 and captain Durrant fell one run short of a half-century as Town racked up 278-7 before removing their hosts for 155 as Paul Swannell and Elliott Baldwin claimed three wickets apiece.

Eaton Socon also recorded a welcome win on Saturday, but plunged bottom St Ives deeper into trouble in the process.

Skipper Jonny Carpenter starred with the bat and Matt Taylor excelled with the ball in a 64-run success for Socon.

Carpenter fell three runs short of a century in the final over, when making a season’s best of 97, as his men piled up 256-4 before dismissing their hosts for 192 despite some fine resistance from fellow skipper Ricky Greiller.

He continued a prolific personal run of form with 75 before becoming one of Taylor’s victims in a terrific 5-22 return - his second five-wicket haul of the summer.

Ramsey saw a three-match hot streak come to an end against reigning champions Foxton.

Skipper Michael Cafferkey hit 66 as his side were dismissed for 195 when chasing the home side’s posting of 273-9. Ramsey spinner Kasim Ikhlaq bagged 4-49.

Waresley were also beaten on their travels. Tom Griffiths’ side could only reach 160 to fall to a 56-run reverse at Nassington despite a half-century from Alex Scully.

Kimbolton returned to the Whiting & Partners Division Two summit by blowing away Blunham.

A clash of two promotion-chasing teams turned into a one-sided affair as Kimbolton triumphed by 168 runs.

Martin Burton top-scored with an unbeaten 89 and Rory Fenton added 65 as the locals roared to 271-5 before skittling their hosts for 103.

Chris Gilthorpe (3-20) and Lee Ingram (3-23) led a smart bowling effort as Blunham were reduced to 40-7. They eventually crept into three figures before being put out of their misery.

Huntingdon & District lost top spot when going down by 49 runs in a high-scoring clash at Ufford Park.

The locals never really threatened a posting of 290-5 despite big scores from Graham Hudson (85) and Jahanzib Khan (74) as they reached 241-9 in reply.

Warboys fell agonisingly short against Castor & Ailsworth, being dismissed for 208 as they chased 210-7.
