Huntingdon & District legend Freddie Khan rolled back the years with a first century for more than a decade last Saturday - at the age of 59.

Former first-team captain Khan hit a terrific 110no for the club’s second XI in a Hunts League Division Three defeat at Peterborough outfit Hampton 2nds.

It was the first time he had reached three figures since 2005 and he certainly enjoyed it.

“I got 84 a few weeks ago in a game against Biggleswade when batting at number seven,” said Khan. “I moved up the order on Saturday and it was great to get a ton at my age!”

Khan was not the only local player to reach three figures in Division Three last Saturday – Ian Jones of Upwood did likewise.

He hit an unbeaten 106 in a 59-run success at Burghley Park 2nds which kept the villagers’ hopes of promotion alive.

Mitch Newman (58) and David Drage (52) also hit half-centuries as their side piled up 259-3 before removing the hosts for 200.

Two members of the same Ramsey family hit half-centuries last Saturday.

Dad John Wells hit 52 for the 3rds (for whom skipper Harry Buddle also hit 53) in their Division Three loss at Falcon XI while son Ashley recorded the same score when helping the 2nds to victory in Division One.

Captain Leighton Gilbert added 59 to a Ramsey 2nds tally of 229 as they beat bottom team Waresley 2nds by 19 runs – a result which confirmed the losing side’s relegation despite a fine return of 6-40 from spinner Andy Parry.

Eaton Socon 2nds are still fighting for survival after a 39-run defeat at Peterborough side AK XI left them four points above the drop-zone with three games to go.

An unbeaten 34 from James Taylor provided the only real resistance as they were dismissed for just 113.

Buckden maintained their hopes of earning promotion to Division One with a vital success last Saturday.

Skipper Laurie Marsh top-scored with 61 as his second-placed side secured a three-wicket triumph in a Division Two derby at Houghton & Wyton.

A valuable 33 from Hayley Brown helped Buckden past their hosts’ posting of 148-9 despite the best efforts of Houghton & Wyton ace Ryan Drage, who bagged 4-16.

Andy Pegram led Brampton to victory in an all-local Division Four clash at Little Paxton.

He hit 81 as his side eased to a six-wicket triumph by eclipsing their hosts’ offering of 175-9 following four-wicket hauls from Robert Jarvis and Darren Boucker. Among Boucker’s victims was Reece Beavis, who hit a career-best 83 for Little Paxton.
