Hot Huntingdon & District prospect Kaif Iqbal continued his emergence with a fine Cambs & Hunts Premier League performance last Saturday.

The 13 year-old leg spinner – grandson of club legend Freddie Khan - took 3-39 in only his second appearance at Whiting & Partners Division Two level as his side snapped a four-match losing streak.

They beat Saffron Walden 2nds by six wickets at St Peters to claim quick revenge after losing to the same opponents the previous weekend, when Iqbal claimed two wickets in his first-team debut.

Huntingdon & District performed much better on this occasion as they dismissed the visitors for 144 before an unbeaten 33 from Philip Wright was the biggest contribution to a successful Huntingdon & District chase.

Captain Craig Leigh said: “We’re very proud of Kaif for taking the chance he has been given in the last couple of weeks, even though it is such a big step up.

“He has been part of the club from a very young age and we’ve enjoyed seeing him improve. I imagine he will become a regular for the first team.”

Overseas ace Jason Redinger hit a century for the second successive game as Kimbolton continued their promotion challenge at that level.

The South African star contributed 102 to his side’s total of 270-4 as they beat Cambridge St Giles by 26 runs.

Marcus Wilkinson added 79 as James Biddle’s men put together an imposing score, but their bowlers couldn’t dismiss the stubborn visitors who made it to 244-8 in reply. Chris Gilthorpe and Martin Burton bagged a couple of wickets apiece.

Kimbolton remain second in the standings with two games to go – a home clash against relegation battlers Burwell 2nds and a final-day derby date at Huntingdon & District.

They trail leaders Sawston & Babraham by 14 points.

Bottom side Warboys were unable to fulfil a fixture for the second time this season.

They couldn’t raise a team to entertain Cambridge Granta 2nds and were hit with another 50-point deduction.

It reduced their points tally to just 31 and leaves them 268 adrift at the foot of the standings.
