Eynesbury boss Mark Ducket insisted his side didn’t deserve to see their unbeaten start to the United Counties League Premier Division season ended last Saturday.

Rovers slipped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of table-toppers Daventry Town, who extended their own 100 per cent record to five league matches in the process, at Hall Road.

The only goal arrived nine minutes before the break from visiting forward Taylor Orosz but it was laced with controversy with Ducket adamant the Town man was clearly offside before beating Rovers number one Aaron Butcher.

“A draw would have been a fair result as far as I’m concerned,” said Ducket.

“The Daventry goal was clearly offside - I’m talking by 10-12 yards with the linesman not up with play.

“But they have scored nine, seven and six in games this season so to be beaten 1-0 by a goal that shouldn’t have stood is not too disappointing.

“But I do need a lot of my players to step up in the bigger games otherwise losing them will become a regular occurrence.”

Clear-cut chances were few and far between in a match of little excitement.

Butcher kept out free kicks from Orosz and Adam Creaney before Luke Smith headed wide for the hosts from a Hayden Bream corner.

An initial Butcher save and a fine James Ducket block then denied Orosz but the Daventry frontman soon succeeded in breaking the deadlock – seconds after Rovers had themselves been threatening at the other end with a T’ai Williams shot blocked.

Rovers introduced Jemale McKenzie as a half-time substitute and he saw a free kick saved before Dan Draper steered a Stevan Shaw cross just wide.

Draper also saw another header saved as Eynesbury failed to break through on a frustrating afternoon.

Rovers remain third in the early-season standings ahead of a trip to another unbeaten side – Deeping Rangers – this Saturday.

“It doesn’t get any easier for us,” added Ducket. “Deeping are another highly-rated team who are still unbeaten in the league and I expect them to mount a real challenge for the title.”

Ducket’s men then begin their KO Cup challenge with a Tuesday home date against Division One outfit Rushden & Higham.
